Therapy for Therapists in Texas
ARE YOU PRIORITIZING YOU?
You hold space for others all day, every day. You guide, support, and nurture your clients through their deepest struggles while balancing finishing your notes in a 'reasonable' amount of time, drinking enough water (but not enough to have your bladder explode during a session), and trying to negotiate with insurance companies. Then, you drive home and want to collapse onto your couch scrolling social media. But, you don't feel like you can. Someone has to make dinner, start the tough conversations with your partner, and book the appointments. You find it hard to sleep and believe the entire weight of the world is resting on your heart and shoulders.
But who holds space for you? Your emotional load can be immense as a therapist, healer, and caregiver. You never thought you would be the person who dreads getting out of bed in the morning and shudders when hearing the ding of a new email detailing the latest client crisis. Each time you try to make a change or ask for help, it doesn't last for long, and you're exhausted from continuing to ask.
Most of my clients are wounded healers who genuinely want to help. But constantly putting others first isn’t sustainable. Therapy forces us to confront our martyr complex and prioritize our well-being. Therapy for therapists isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity. At Sage Holistic Counseling, I specialize in helping therapists like you recover from the patterns that drain your energy so you can rediscover balance and joy in your personal and professional life.
Is it Supposed to Be this Hard? Why Therapists Need A Specialized Therapist
The Emotional Toll of Holding Space
You’re deeply attuned to the needs of others, often prioritizing your clients’ well-being above your own. You know you can't keep going like this, you know the dangers of compassion fatigue, burnout, and isolation. You told yourself that you weren't going to be a therapist that felt dead on the inside. But, you're worried that no one understands the unique challenges of being a therapist inside and outside the therapy room.
The Pressure to Be Perfect
Therapists often grapple with high expectations: from clients, colleagues, supervisors, and themselves. You may have a stream of relentless self-criticism in your head, struggle with an overcommitted calendar, and have difficulty saying no—all of which take a toll on your mental health. Many of my clients wonder if they can even be a good therapist if they are struggling to manage their own life. My answer? Of course, it is possible.
Boundary Struggles
You might find it challenging to set and maintain boundaries, both at work and in your personal life. Perhaps you’ve noticed how saying “yes” to one more task at the end of a long day leaves you feeling stretched too thin. It’s not just about accommodating others—it’s the fear of letting someone down, or the pressure to prove your worth through overcommitment. Yet, constantly saying “yes” often means sacrificing your well-being, leaving little room for rest, reflection, or reconnecting with what truly matters to you.
The Stigma of Seeking Help
As a therapist, seeking therapy can feel like admitting failure. You might worry about being judged by peers or even fear that it could impact your referrals or business reputation. The stigma within the mental health field about clinicians seeking help themselves can amplify these fears, making it feel like an unspoken taboo. You might wonder if admitting your struggles means you’re not good at your job or question whether clients or colleagues will perceive you differently. But seeking support isn’t a sign of weakness—it’s a courageous step toward resilience, growth, and ultimately becoming a more effective and balanced clinician.
What Does a Session with Aubrey Look Like?
My Unique Approach to Helping THERAPISTS
I provide a safe, compassionate space for therapists to explore their struggles without judgment. Together, we create a supportive environment where you can untangle the challenges of being both a caregiver and a human being with your own needs.
In sessions, we begin with where you are right now—whether it’s exhaustion, anxiety, or feeling disconnected from yourself and your work. Using a blend of evidence-based techniques and mind-body practices, we’ll build a personalized path to help you recover, recharge, and rediscover joy. Imagine a session where you can finally set down the weight of others’ expectations and breathe. You’ll have permission to focus entirely on your well-being and find clarity in the noise of daily demands.
Why does this help? Because therapy creates a space to unravel the perfectionism and overcommitment that keep you stuck. It’s not about giving up who you are; it’s about embracing a version of yourself that feels free and supported. When we work together, you’ll experience a shift—from merely surviving your role to thriving both in and out of it.
Here are some everyday experiences of my clients that might sound familiar:
Struggling to set boundaries without feeling guilty or selfish.
Constantly saying "yes" to requests, even when it means neglecting your own needs.
Feeling like you need to be perfect in every role you take on—therapist, partner, parent, friend.
Worrying about what others will think if you admit you need help.
Craving rest but feeling like you have to "earn" it.
You deserve to show up for yourself in the same way you so generously show up for others. Therapy with me offers you the permission, tools, and space to do just that.
You deserve to show up for yourself in the same way you so generously show up for others. Therapy with me offers you the permission, tools, and space to do just that.
What to Expect & How Therapy at Sage Holistic Counseling Can Help You
Beginning therapy is a courageous step, especially as a therapist yourself. It’s important to acknowledge that healing is not an overnight process. True transformation takes time, and the timeline varies for each individual. While some clients may notice positive changes within a few sessions, deeper work addressing perfectionism, burnout, and boundary-setting often requires months of consistent commitment. Therapy is not just about solving immediate challenges—it’s about building lasting resilience and creating a life that feels sustainable and fulfilling.
In our sessions together, you’ll experience a tailored, supportive approach designed to meet your specific needs as a therapist. Here’s what you can expect:
A Safe Space to Be Vulnerable: Leave the role of “helper” at the door and step into a judgment-free zone where your feelings and struggles are honored. This is the one place where you don’t have to worry about the person across from you because I am solely focused on you, and I can take care of myself. Promise.
Evidence-Based Techniques: I integrate mindfulness, meditation, EFT/tapping, EMDR, DBT-informed therapy, and Polyvagal approaches to address your unique challenges holistically. No pseudoscience or Tik-Tok Therapists are allowed here.
Permission to Prioritize Yourself: Therapy creates a dedicated time to focus entirely on you—without worrying about the next task or who needs your attention. Turn on your DND and mute your notifications. Our sixty minutes together is a sacred time to rest, feel, and heal.
Why should you accept this help and carve this valuable hour out of your schedule? Because you deserve it. Therapy allows you to untangle the narratives that keep you overcommitted and stuck. It provides you with tools to create boundaries, challenge unhelpful thoughts, and rediscover the joy in both your work and personal life.
You’re not just improving your life—you’re also modeling the importance of self-care and mental health for your clients. It’s okay to need help. It’s okay to take that step for yourself. And it’s okay to take your time to get there. Let’s work together to create a life that truly feels like yours.
Committing to therapy is an investment in yourself, and it’s important to set realistic expectations. Healing is not an overnight process; it takes time, patience, and consistency. While some clients begin to notice changes within a few sessions, deeper, long-lasting transformation often requires months of work. Therapy is not a quick fix, but a journey of self-discovery and growth tailored to your unique needs. By dedicating this time to yourself, you’re taking an essential step toward sustainable well-being and balance.
Book a Session with Me if You’re Ready to:
Overcome Perfectionism & Embrace Imperfection: No one loves you because you never make a mistake, never ask for help, and are always flawless. Let me help you rediscover what makes you lovable and worthy.
Learn to Challenge Your Inner Critic: She may be loud, but it doesn’t mean that she is always right. Turn the volume down and allow a new voice to shine through.
Set and Maintain Boundaries: Say “no” without guilt & “yes” from a place of abundance, and create space for what truly matters.
Reconnect with Yourself & Rediscover Your Passions Outside of Work: Last time I checked, being a therapist was the least interesting thing about you. Explore your values and hobbies outside your 8-5.
Develop Sustainable Self-Care Practices: Shift from self-sacrifice to self-prioritization by addressing root causes and systemic influences.

Therapists spend their days holding space for others, which can lead to emotional exhaustion and burnout. Therapy provides a space to process your own emotions, navigate challenges, and prioritize self-care. Ready for a deep dive into my thoughts? Check out my blogs:

Therapy for therapists specifically focuses on the unique pressures therapists face, such as compassion fatigue, boundary-setting, and perfectionism, while providing a safe space free from judgment. In my search for my therapist (your grandtherapist), I found multiple clinicians who became flustered and uncomfortable when I told them I was a practicing clinician. Or, they started to ask questions about my training (who cares - I want to know how YOU can help me, not vice versa). You don’t have to worry about any of that nonsense here. Feeling guilty for prioritizing your needs is common. Experiencing guilt doesn’t mean that you are making the wrong decision - it means that in a perfect world, you would have preferred to make another choice. Or, it may mean that you are taking on others’ suffering as your own and metabolizing it as your guilt. We can talk more & dive deeper about this in our sessions!

Absolutely. This is your space to explore any challenges, including those related to your work as a therapist. Together, we can address issues like client dynamics, ethical dilemmas, and career transitions. Nothing is too taboo or off-limits in therapy. However, some situations require mandated reporting (like child abuse or elder abuse).

Therapy is a commitment and an investment in your well-being. If you can’t find an hour once a week to prioritize yourself, then that is another symptom that we need to address. Together, we can address the barriers and pain points in prioritizing yourself as much as you prioritize everyone else.

While therapy’s primary goal is to support your well-being, many therapists find that prioritizing their mental health positively impacts their professional effectiveness and satisfaction. I truly believe that all therapists should be in therapy and that you can only take your clients as far as you have gone yourself.

One, I am so sorry that you had a shitty experience. It’s not right that you didn’t get what you needed from a therapist to feel safe and understood. Final Thoughts from Aubrey:
As therapists, caregivers, and helping professionals, we often find ourselves pouring our energy into the well-being of others while neglecting our own. We give so much of ourselves — to our clients, patients, families, and communities — that we forget the importance of nurturing our own emotional and mental health. But the truth is, in order to be the best version of ourselves for those we care about, we must first care for ourselves. It’s not selfish; it’s essential.
You may be feeling the weight of burnout, struggling to keep up with the demands of your profession, or grappling with the overwhelming emotions that come with holding space for others. Maybe you’re accustomed to putting everyone else’s needs ahead of your own, or you find yourself stretched too thin, unable to set clear boundaries. These challenges can leave you feeling drained, disconnected, and at times, unsure of how to move forward. But it doesn’t have to be this way.
Therapy designed specifically for therapists and helping professionals acknowledges the unique nature of your role. You’re navigating the complexities of supporting others while managing your own life, emotions, and responsibilities. You don’t have to carry that weight alone. Through our work together, we’ll explore the intersection of your personal and professional worlds, helping you set healthier boundaries, manage the demands of your role, and prioritize your own self-care.
Together, we’ll create a safe, non-judgmental space where you can truly be heard, understood, and supported. You deserve a therapist who not only understands the challenges of being in a helping profession but also appreciates the emotional toll it takes on your well-being. With the right support, you can reconnect with your passion for your work, regain your energy, and cultivate a sense of balance that allows you to show up as the best version of yourself — both for you and for the clients you serve.
This is a space where your struggles are valid, and your need for support is respected. The same compassion and care you offer others is something you deserve too. It's time to break free from the cycle of self-sacrifice and embrace a more sustainable and fulfilling way of living and working. Your own healing is just as important as the healing you help others achieve.
If you’re ready to take the next step in prioritizing your own mental health and well-being, I’m here to support you. It’s time to give yourself permission to heal, to take a breath, and to create a balanced, thriving life. Reach out today to schedule a session. You don’t have to do this alone — let’s work together to help you reclaim your peace, joy, and sense of purpose.
